Vejer de la Frontera
welcome to Vejer de la Frontera
A town with a view, and one of the most photogenic villages in Cádiz. Declared an historic-artistic monument.
Vejer de la Frontera is one of the most, if not the most picturesque village in the province of Cádiz. It's literally perched on the top of a mountain, and the views overlooking the coast on one side, and the Sierra on the other are absolutely breathtaking. It's one of those places that is almost impossible to drive by without stopping to take a closer look - not only are the views from the town dramatic, the views of the town are equally dramatic. The town itself is simply charming, as are its inhabitants. Vejer is the kind of place that you never visit just once.
Three things not to be missed on your next visit:
1. Rent a bike: there's a place on calle Remedies, in the centre of town, that rents out mountain bikes for either easy rides to the beach or more technical rides cross-country. It's not all going to be siesta, sunbathing and sitting out on the bar terraces!
2. Have a "Fino": Visit Bodegas Gallardo in La Barca de Vejer. They have been in the sherry business for nearly a hundred years. Well worth the trip, just don't have too many or you'll have to crawl back up the hill on your hands and knees!
3. Drink tea: Don't miss a glass of refreshing mint tea on the magical rooftop terrace of La Casa del Califa. This friendly hotel is located in the town square, and reflects the Moorish history of Vejer.
